Seeing Santa...or not

In concept, Evie is a big fan of Santa's.  We talked about him for at least a week or so before taking the trip to see him.  We read books and looked at pictures - she was all about sitting on Santa's lap and giving him a hug.

So, right after Thanksgiving (or maybe it was before?), we took the kids to the mall to see Santa.  I took my own camera to get a picture figuring if they didn't sit well, we wouldn't be out the $20 or so.

There were a few people in line so while we waited, we talked about Santa and watched other kids sit on his lap.  Evie was very excited and Riley was excited because Evie was.  Evie waved to Santa and blew him kisses.

Then, it came time to actually sit on Santa's lap.  Riley, because he's not as mobile, sat on his lap without much fuss while we tried to get Evie to do the same.  She was having done of it!  Once she got close, she totally froze (which I kind of suspected she might do).  No amount of coaxing could get her on that lap.

Riley kept looking from Santa to Evie to Joe & I, trying to figure out if this was a good thing or not.

He decided it wasn't. ;)

We had plenty of opportunities to run into Santa at the mall in the following weeks and I thought the more encounters, the more opportunities to get familiar with him.  It worked to some extent although Evie never got any closer than this.

Maybe we'll start talking about him for next year.
